Gluten freebies

First off, there was a time when everyone on the planet was gluten free. That time was before human beings decided it was a good idea to eat grass. It was not long enough ago for evolution to have changed much about our digestive abilities, so it would probably benefit most people to take gluten out of their diets.

Secondly, just because you don't get sick after eating gluten, doesn't mean it's good for you. The only reason you don't get sick, is because you've developed a tolerance to it. And furthermore, who says you don't get sick from gluten? Have you ever gotten sick from drinking too much beer? How do you know it was the alcohol and not the gluten? Have you ever gotten sick from drinking too much wine? Wine is almost always gluten-free, so you should guage your reaction to beer against your reaction to wine. They both have alcohol in them, but they don't both have gluten.

Thirdly, one of the most successful diets for health and well-being was free of gluten. The Gerson diet was developed scientifically in the earlier half of the 1900's. It has been shown to boost the immune system so strongly that it allows people to recover from some of the most horrific diseases around. Look it up on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Gerson
Very interesting. A scientific genius comes up with a ground breaking diet which threatens to marginalize medicine. Then he dies of arsenic poisoning.

Fourthly, the Atkins diet (for which I am not a proponent) requires that you don't eat any carbohydrates. Many people have claimed to have huge increases in energy after going on Atkins. The thing is, if you take out all of the carbs, you also take out all of the gluten. Try NOT taken out all of the carbs, but getting them through fruits, vegetables, rice, and corn instead. Just leave out the wheat, barley, oats, etc.

Finally, I truly hope that some of the people reading this (if there are any people reading this), learned something new. If you aren't gluten-free, maybe it's something you could try out for a few days. See if you feel any differently. If you ARE gluten-free, now you have more ammunition with which to defend your dietary choices.
